When you instruct the application to monitor a folder, it adds the ability to assign metadata and rename files as they’re ingested. Although Exposure X4 doesn’t include a direct camera tethering option, if you have software running that can shuttle image files directly from the camera to a folder on disk, the response is fast enough that photos appear in the library almost instantly. That’s the basis for a new Monitor feature for tethering purposes. Exposure X4 populates its library by reading folders on disk, as opposed to some applications that move images to a central library (Lightroom, by contrast, requires any file management be done within the app, or else it loses track of where photos are stored.) Exposure X4 is quick about updating folders when new images are added to them. The only flaw in smart collections is that date ranges must be defined as specific dates, not general ranges such as "the previous month."Įxposure X4 populates its library by reading folders on disk, as opposed to some applications that move images to a central library, which means it’s always on the lookout for file changes. So, for example, you can define a smart collection that shows all flagged photos captured between May 1 and May 31, but you cannot specify a less-specific range such as “the last 30 days” or “one year ago today.” When defining capture time as a criterion, you can enter only specific dates. The feature does have one limitation I’d like to see fixed. As you add photos to your library that match those specifications, they’re automatically added to the smart collection. The new Smart Collections feature displays photos based on criteria you set, such as revealing all photos captured with a 50mm lens rated three stars or higher. Preview and select which photos to import. That fills out the Copy Photos from Card dialog, which also allows you to select multiple cards or directories at the same time, make backups to a separate location during import, and assign metadata to the images. When importing photos from a memory card or camera, Exposure X4 now includes image thumbnails so you can choose which photos to copy - a seemingly essential feature that was missing in previous versions. Unedited (aside from simple Black & White conversation) version at left shadows adjustment at right. The Shadows control, which was oddly heavy-handed in the previous release, now behaves as you would expect, manipulating just the tones in shadow areas instead of lightening or darkening the entire image. I see the once-ubiquitous “Rendering” badge less often now. There’s still a pause when opening Raw files or switching zoom levels, as Exposure X4 loads the image data, but even that seems improved with this version. I’m using the same computer (a 2016 MacBook Pro with 16GB of RAM and the Radeon Pro 460 graphics processor with 4GB memory), and, happily, the lag is gone. The improvement between that experience and Exposure X4 is noticeable, even with larger Raw files from today’s cameras, including the 26MP FujiFilm X-T3. The improvement between that experience and Exposure X4 is noticeable: the lag is gone The problem wasn’t as pronounced with Canon or Nikon Raw files, though it did show up to a lesser degree on large Sony Raw files. Using the brush to paint adjustments was like watching a movie with dialogue out of sync: I’d paint an area, wait for the software to apply the effect, paint another area, wait, and so on. In Exposure X3, I was surprised by laggy performance when editing photos, specifically working with the Raw files from my FujiFilm X-T1 and its 16.3MP X-Trans sensor. The changes in this release address some prior rough edges, add features that are now expected for this class of software, and in general refine the experience of processing your photos without feeling like the software is getting in the way. The changes in this release address some prior rough edges, add features and refine the experience of processing your photosĪlthough the new Exposure X4 version 4.5 feels more evolutionary than its version number would suggest, that’s not a criticism. When I reviewed Alien Skin Exposure X3, I noted several features that make it unique among other photo editing and organizing applications, such as its extensive library of professional presets, a quad-layout interface option for reviewing multiple similar shots at once, and a novel way of storing nondestructive edits on disk.

HOW TO COOK BONELESS CHICKEN THIGHS IN THE OVENīaked boneless chicken thighs often require about half the cooking time of bone-in chicken thighs. Again, the best way to find out whether they are fully cooked is by inserting a meat thermometer into the thickest part of the thighs-but make sure to not touch the bone. If you are baking chicken thighs from frozen or with a stuffing, be aware that it will take longer for them to cook. Make sure to cook chicken thighs of similar sizes in the oven for even results. After resting for 3-5 minutes, the temperature will rise about 5 degrees F, or close to 3 degrees C, reaching the desired temperature of 165 ☏ or 74 ☌ needed for safety purposes according to the FDA. The same time differential may apply to other oven temperatures and size/weight of the chicken thighs.īut as always, for a more accurate result, check the internal temperature, which should be at least 160 ☏ (71 ☌) when coming out of the oven. E.g.: At 400☏ (205☌), small chicken thighs bake in 35 minutes, medium ones in 40 minutes, and large ones in 45 minutes. Notice there is a 5-minute range between small, medium, and large size chicken thighs. The oven temperatures and baking times below are for bone-in and skin-on chicken thighs. The temperature you bake the chicken thighs in the oven (they will bake faster in higher temps and longer in lower temps). The weight/size of the thighs (smaller thighs bake faster than larger ones),.Whether they are bone in or boneless (Bone in thighs bake in double the time required for boneless thighs),.There are 3 main factors that affect how long you bake chicken thighs for: How Long To Bake Chicken Thighs (Different Temperatures) Large chicken thighs (about 8 oz) - 40 minutes.Medium chicken thighs (about 5 to 6 oz) - 35 minutes.Small chicken thighs (3 to 4 oz) - 30 minutes. It has produced some of the juiciest thighs ever!Īt 425° F degrees (220☌), the baking time will depend on the size/weight as follows: I often bake chicken thighs at 425° F degrees (220☌). I would say that 400-450 F temperatures work the best! High temperatures work best to seal the juices in and give it a ‘seared’, golden exterior. The time will depend on the weight/size of your chicken thighs, as well as the temperature that you bake it in the oven.
I also had many FLAC files, which WMP had no trouble streaming since there are a variety of free codec pacs on the Net that allow you to both rip and stream FLAC and ALAC files, besides lossless WAV and the lossy formats (personally, I use the great dbpoweramp software to rip all of my music and add tags and album art to it. Guess they are too tired from defending Beta and MiniDisc as viable formats for 753 years). You know, when I built my new PC in 2013, and ripped all of my CDs in WAV format to the HDDs, I used Windows Media Player 12 under Windows 7 to stream to my Onkyo network receiver and to my Sony Blu-ray player (I prefer the Onkyo, because Sony only shows the track titles - no artist or album info and no album art. Powerline adapters, which use your home’s electrical wiring to distribute data, are another good option. I’ve found that older 802.11n routers aren’t a reliable option for high-res streaming via DLNA you’re more likely to get glitch-free playback when using a dual-band router that supports data streaming over the 5 GHz band, or an 802.11ac router, which boosts data throughput to 1.3 Gbps. Here’s some advice since you’re specifically interested in streaming high-res audio: either use a wired Ethernet connection or upgrade your wireless router to the best possible model you can afford. There’s even an Android/iOS app called Jremote that can control playback of JRMC running on your computer or NAS from a phone or tablet. I regularly use JRiver Media Center as the media server in my own setup and find it to be reliable and easy to use. They can also transcode different file types on-the-fly so they will play through your Marantz. The media server applications mentioned above can handle a wide range of file types, including FLAC and AIFF with resolutions up to 24bit/192kHz. These are applications that run on a PC, Mac, or NAS drive and enable audio, video, and image files to be streamed over a home network to a DLNA renderer like your Marantz 7702mkII preamp. My suggestion would be to look into other DLNA/UPnP-compatible media server software options like JRiver Media Center Asset UPnP, or Twonky Server. At least that’s the case with WMP on Windows 7, which is the version of Windows that I - and many other people, apparently - am currently running. But as you say, it doesn’t provide native support for lossless file types such as FLAC and ALAC that are commonly used by high-res download sites. WMP can work as long as you’re streaming files in uncompressed WAV format, or ones that have been compressed using common lossy schemes like MP3. TurnerĪ Sounds like you’re already on the right track by questioning the use of Windows Media Player (WMP) as the media server in your setup. However, it’s my understanding that WMP can’t play FLAC files without additional transcoding, and even then it can’t handle files with 24bit/192kHz resolution. Do you have any recommendations for getting the best-quality playback from my high-res audio downloads? -Trey M. ( Public Domain )īy accepting the absurd we can likewise accept the fact that life is meaningless, and it is at this time that we are capable of living fully. And yet it is in this moment of self-reflection that we are happiest. It is at this moment that he reflects on his punishment, much like the human being must become conscious of the absurd predicament of life. Camus tells us that as the boulder rolls back down the hill, Sisyphus must slowly descend to retrieve the rock to repeat his punishment. "There is no fate that cannot be surmounted by scorn." -Albert Camus (The Myth of Sisyphus)ĭespite how it may appear, and this is the important part, The Myth of Sisyphus is not the musings of a mad man bent on self-destruction. He explains that we can either ignore the absurd, continue to search for meaning in vain, or reject the absurd and rebel against the purposelessness of the universe. Struggling to find meaning in a universe devoid of any is at the heart of the human condition, a condition that tortures us the more we fight against it.Ĭamus writes that he is not so interested in the observation of the absurd, but rather the consequences of realizing it. This search for purpose is in direct conflict with the apparent purposelessness of the universe. In The Myth Of Sisyphus, his first essay published in 1942, Camus uses the myth as a cornerstone on which to build his unique school of existential thought, known as Absurdism.Ībsurdism teaches that human beings struggle with an internal, never ending quest for purpose and fulfillment in life. It is not hard to see how Algerian author and philosopher Albert Camus would find inspiration for his philosophy of Absurdism from the myth of Sisyphus. It doesn't make sense, I know, but stick with me on this one.Īfter Sisyphus returns to the mortal world he quickly decides that he does not wish to return to the underworld. Sisyphus is angered that his wife would choose strict obedience to his word, rather than devoted love to his memory and dignity. When Sisyphus dies he wakes up in the underworld only to find that his wife has indeed fulfilled his request. The one that Albert Camus seems to favor in his essay The Myth of Sisyphus, involves Sisyphus testing his wife's devotion and love as he nears death.Īccording to the story, Sisyphus asks his wife that, upon his death, she cast his unburied body into the town square. What did Sisyphus do to anger the gods? There are several different accounts. ( Public Domain ) How did Sisyphus Anger the Gods? It is said that Sisyphus would be forced to endure this for all of time, performing a pointless, tired task until the end of existence. Sisyphus would then make his tired march down the hill where he would start this task over again. When Sisyphus reached the top of the mountain, the boulder would immediately roll back down the hill in a matter of moments. He was taken to the kingdom of the underworld and was forced to endure one of the most pointless and excruciating punishments of ancient mythology.Įvery day, he would carry a massive boulder up a mountain, straining and sweating all the while. Nonetheless he would fall out of favor with the gods of ancient Greece. The legend of Sisyphus begins with a man who, if we are to believe Homer, was one of the wisest and most prudent of mortals.
